PLASTEC New England joins BIOMEDevice Boston, Design & Manufacturing (D&M) New England and the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Boston under the Advanced Design and Manufacturing umbrella on May 3 and 4 in Boston, MA. Event organizer UBM, which produces PlasticsToday, recently announced its partnership with the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC) and the third annual Massachusetts Medtech Week. Massachusetts Medtech Week will be headlined by the 21st Annual MassMEDIC Conference held in conjunction with BIOMEDevice Boston. Of special note, MassMEDIC will feature a conversation with Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) President and CEO, Scott Whitaker, at its annual conference at noon on May 3.

The Boston metro area is one of the most important regions for medical research in the United States, with a significant number of medical device startups spun off of research conducted at Harvard and MIT. Boston came in second, after Minneapolis/St. Paul, in a poll conducted by sister brand Qmed of America’s top medtech hubs. The device industry includes 480 companies with about 24,000 employees in Massachusetts, according to MassMEDIC.
The May event will draw more than 4,000 engineers and executives and feature more than 400 leading suppliers.

AdvaMed, the world's largest medical technology association, named Whitaker as its President and CEO in 2016. Prior to taking leadership at AdvaMed, Whitaker was the Chief Operating Officer of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) and also Chief of Staff of the United States Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).
Whitaker will be taking part in a "fireside chat" with Brian Johnson, editor of MassDevice, on how the policies of the Trump Administration will impact the medtech industry and the current climate of medtech innovation.
The event also features numerous conference sessions devoted to such topics as recruiting and retaining top talent, FDA/ISO problems with mold and process validation and accelerating innovation through collaboration, as well as numerous networking opportunities. Hundreds of suppliers to the advanced manufacturing sector, including injection molding and 3D printing, will display their wares on the show floor.
